Intersectionality is a term coined in the US, by leading critical race theory scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw. It describes the study of overlapping identities and the interaction of different power structures, such as race, class and gender. Intersectionality helps us to analyze how systemic, institutional and historical oppression affects groups differently and enriches the understanding of how norms are constructed.
In this session, participants will:
- Learn how to grasp the concept of intersectionality, identity, privilege and oppression
- Discuss what intersectionality means within our sphere of influence, e.g. in the workplace
- Learn practical examples of intersectionality in the workplace
- Consider how intersectional DEI strategies can effectively create a culture of belonging in the workplace
