Annie Yu
Chief of Staff at Vox Media
Annie Yu has built her career in the marketing and advertising industry, working across creative, ad tech and media/publishing with Vox Media, BuzzFeed, Undertone and Siegel+Gale.
"Media has a massive influence on culture, how we see ourselves and how we see each other," says Annie. "I get to be part of building a movement that provides a platform for voices that have been traditionally underrepresented, and to spotlight stories that haven’t been told, but need to be shared."
As Chief of Staff at Vox Media, her impact is to create a place where people want to work, and when they work there, they want to stay. This means scrutinizing the numbers just as much as understanding the employee experience. She surely realizes that diversity, equity and inclusion affects the entire business and employee lifecycle from how people are hired to who works on initiatives, resources and workflow, peer relationships, recognition, career progression, access to information and leadership, and more.
What drives Annie is breaking down barriers to drive opportunity for others. A child of Asian immigrants who settled in New York City, she spent a lot of time growing up navigating "the right way" to do things and is still balancing what it means to be Asian, American, female, and the intersectionality in-between. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Annie still lives there with her husband and is an active member in her community as a member of her alumni organization, partner to the Asian American Federation, and volunteer at New York Cares.
